With the mouse, you move your avatar through the map, and when you find an ax on the map, go into it to grab it and then to throw it simply click and it will be thrown in the direction you are moving.

Also, try to collect as many colored dots as possible to increase your score. Your goal is to survive for as long as possible, avoiding getting hit by axes thrown by other players, while at the same time you eliminate as much of your competition as possible and climb at the top.
