This is because this is also an action-adventure game for two, where two characters of opposing elements have to work together to exit the levels and reach their destination.

One is the Darkmaster, who takes his magical powers from darkness, and is a man, while the Lightmaiden, a girl, takes her power from light. Instead of moving both the characters at the same time, the two players take turns in controlling the character, so you decide at the start which of them you want to be.

Move using the right and left arrows, press the up one to jump, the E key for action, and press the spacebar to switch characters. The master can go through the dark spots and collect the dark globes, but avoid the light ones, or you lose. The maiden can go through the light spots and collect the light globes.

Collect the magic for points, and use the levers with the E key to open up hatches, as well as move platforms up and down, so you can ascend until you reach the exit for that level.
